Long Distance Running
USATF Nebraska Long Distance Running (LDR) supports road racing and distance competition throughout the state. From local 5Ks to championship-level races, USATF Nebraska works to promote fair competition, safe events, and opportunities for athletes of all levels.
Long distance running includes road races, cross country (non-youth), trail events, and other distance competitions conducted under USATF rules.
The LDR division serves:
Open athletes (ages 19+)
Masters athletes (age 40+ for road racing championships)
Competitive and recreational runners
USATF-affiliated clubs
Race directors and event organizers
Whether you’re chasing a personal best, competing for team scoring, or organizing an event, USATF Nebraska supports the distance running community statewide.
USATF Nebraska may designate association championship events in various distances, which can include:
Road race championships (e.g., 5K, 10K, Half Marathon)
Open 5K Championship: Rust Buster 5K 1/1/2026
Masters 5k Championship: Full Wolf Moon 5K 1/25/2026
Youth 5K Championship: Valentines Day 5k 2/14/2026

Championship events follow USATF rules and require a current USATF membership for scoring and awards eligibility.
USATF sanctions road races and distance events throughout Nebraska. Sanctioning provides:
Secondary sports accident insurance
Official recognition under USATF rules
Course certification guidance (where applicable)
Credibility and competitive standards
Race directors interested in sanctioning an event should review USATF requirements and apply through the national system.
USATF-affiliated clubs play a major role in long distance running across Nebraska. Club membership allows athletes to:

The Long Distance Running (LDR) Chair is responsible for the leadership, promotion, and administration of long distance running within USATF Nebraska. This includes oversight of road racing, non-youth cross country, and other distance events conducted under USATF rules.
The LDR Chair serves as the primary advocate for distance athletes, clubs, and event organizers and works to grow participation, enhance championship opportunities, and ensure quality competition statewide.
