The course includes an understanding of several key subfields of climatology. You will learn about climate data provisioning services, statistical and applied climatology, paleoclimatology, and climate change and associated impacts. You will learn about the interlinkages of other disciplines with climatology and understand the philosophy behind the selection and use of climatological data and models which are used for theoretical and applied climatology.
By the end of the course, the student will be able to:
Demonstrate ability to communicate in the field of climatology;
Demonstrate knowledge of the relevant literature, and discuss contemporary research questions in climatology;
Identify and analyse sources of data, information and communication technology within a climatological context;
Demonstrate mastery of the major climatological methodologies and applications, including techniques for data collection, processing and analysis; and
Demonstrate ability to reflect on and critique own and other’s work.
