BEFORE YOU ASK ANYBODY A QUESTION, PLEASE LOOK FOR THE ANSWER IN THESE GUIDELINES.
NOTES:
All courses have RUconnected pages which are used extensively and provide all the course-related material you will require. It is your responsibility to keep up to date.
Students should not expect communication with staff outside of regular working hours.
Please respect staff personal and family commitments outside of Rhodes University.
All electronic communication with staff should be by email as this constitutes a formal record of correspondence. The staff member must be addressed using their title, the subject line should reflect the topic, and the student should sign off formally using their correct name, surname and student number.
Ask the lecturer giving the course, your tutor (if you are in the First Year) or the Course Coordinator for your Year of study.
Make an appointment to see your lecturer, tutor, course coordinator or the HoD.
Make an appointment to see the HoD, or the Dean if the HoD is the lecturer.
See your class representative who will bring the issue to the next meeting. See the General Section for further information.
Ask the Administrator for an LOA form (Room 27, or for Earth Science Students in the 2nd Term in Room 51 of the Geology Building) or download an extension request form from your course in RUconnected and return it after filling in all the required details. You can then send your request to the staff member. The Administrator cannot grant you either an extension or LOA. You will typically be informed of the decision by email within a few days of applying. See the rules section of the Guide.
If you are away for medical reasons, you only need to fill in an LOA form once you have returned to lectures. Please do not visit the Administrator when you may be infectious, as he/she is needed at work! A phone call or email to the Administrator to say you will be away for some time will be appreciated.
LOA forms can be downloaded from https://www.ru.ac.za/registrar/forms/
