Global freshwater resources are declining in terms of quality and quantity. This module focuses on using ecological concepts, theories, methods, tools and knowledge for addressing pressing freshwater-related challenges confronting society. In doing so, it pays attention to freshwater ecosystem structure, function, processes and dynamics, and on how human-induced pressures at multiple spatial-temporal scales have altered the integrity of freshwater ecosystems. The module also focuses on the policy and regulatory dimensions of freshwater ecosystem management and sustainability. It also aims to develop students that are critical, analytical and systemic in their thinking when addressing water-related challenges.
