Responsible Use Policy

A Responsible Use Policy (RUP) outlines how students should act and treats the student as the person responsible for their own appropriate use of the internet and their device. RUPs promote positive behaviors, expectations, and guidelines.

Our Updated Policy

The RUSD Responsible Use Policy is written in student-friendly language and broken into the following grade level spans: TK-2, 3-5, and 6-12. The purpose of this is to provide students with a framework for responsibility that is developmentally appropriate.

Below you will find each RUP document. By clicking on the link under the RUP, you can access a copy for your grade.

Implementing in your Classroom

It is important that students read and understand the RUP and what it means for their technology use. To aid in this, the Technology Teacher Leads have created an implementation plan with teaching ideas and follow-up activities to help you introduce and review the RUP with your students.

RUP Implementation Ideas

The document to the left (which you can access by clicking the link in the heading above) gives teaching ideas as well as activities to review/reinforce.

For each grade span, there is a Nearpod lesson that introduces each section of the RUP and includes built in review activities, a Kahoot quiz, and a digital Breakout EDU game (along with the teacher's answer guide).

There are also ideas to have students create artifacts such as posters or videos to show what they have learned and how they can be a responsible technology user.

Feel free to use the ideas included in the document or create your own!

If you would like any help with introducing or reviewing the RUP with your students, please reach out to Brandi Miller (bmiller@rowlandschools.org).
