Screencastify

Screencastify Unlimited is the district standard tool for screenrecording! With the unlimited version of Screencastify, you can record videos of any length and utilize the editor to trim, merge, and reorder clips, as well as add text overlays to your recordings.

Getting Started

The Screencastify extension has been pushed out to all teacher Google accounts. To begin recording, click on the extension then choose your recording option and adjust your settings.

Features that Enhance Screeencastify

Here are some features built into Screencastify that can enhance your videos:

Recording Options

Record your browser tab: This option is perfect if you only want to show your viewers what's happening on one specific tab in Chrome. We use this option most when we want to record over a Google Slides presentation, for example.

Record your desktop: Use this option when you want to show your viewer something outside Chrome (like a PowerPoint) or if you think you'll switch between multiple tabs and/or programs.

Record your webcam: This option is perfect when you just want to speak directly to students, no screen involved.

Note: It's possible to capture the audio from a webpage or computer program (for example the audio from a YouTube video on screen). To do that, you'll need to enable tab audio (in a tab recording) or system audio (in a desktop recording). Both options are available under "Show More Options" before you begin a recording.

Edit your Recordings

When you are finished recording your video, you can use the lightning editor found on the main video page. This is for quick editing to trim the beginning or end of your video. If you need a more robust editing option, click 'Open in editor', which will open up Screencastify's full editing tool. Here you will be able to crop, trim, add text, and more! The video below explores both editing options.

Share your Recordings

You can share your recordings with the Watch Page link or a Google Drive link. The Watch Page link is what needs to be shared in order to have students answer any interactive questions or use the world languages caption feature. Check out the video below to learn more!

Additionally, you can download the video file, export the audio only to create a podcast, or turn your video into an animated GIF!
