Why Theatre?

Perform with your friends & act out fun and interesting stories to your classmates and community!

Welcome to Theatre Arts!

Theatre is a truly collaborative art form. It encourages students to express themselves through performance, design, group and individual projects, and hopefully learn more about themselves while having fun and gaining confidence! We would love to have you join us on the stage this year! Theatre encourages a safe environment for play and experimenting; where students can find new friends and learn how to work together!

Why Take Theatre Arts?

Great question. These are some equally great reasons!

Social and Emotional benefits:

  • Empathy: When students of theatre portray characters onstage, they practice putting themselves in others’ shoes. Students who participate in theatre can learn about higher levels of empathy later in life.

  • Collaboration: Theatre students work together to meet project goals, and learn from each other on ideas. Through this group work, theatre students develop a stronger skill set in communication and teamwork to accomplish a common goal.

Academic benefits:

  • Participation in Theatre can book students' sense of belonging to a community, and help to increase or maintain motivation across other classes in school. Theatre also promotes strengthening ability to read and understand complex texts, through scenes and plays.

  • Design- level thinking bolsters complex problem solving skills and creative thinking.

  • Drama activities can improve and help to maintain social and language skills of students.

  • Improvisational drama activities contribute to students learning to perform with originality, both in Theatre and other classes.
