What is the history of the Cedar Valley Dance Program?

The Cedar Valley Dance Department has a long tradition of excellence. Formed in the year 2000, it was the first established Middle School Dance program in Round Rock ISD. Our students leave the program with a passion and respect for dance as an art form...whether it’s through continuing their dance movement education into high school and beyond, or simply having life-long dance appreciation.


Do I need experience to sign up for Dance?

Anyone and everyone can sign up for Dance class. Whether you’ve never taken a dance class before OR if you’ve danced every day of your life since you were 2…we want you to be part of this program! Experience is not required.


Are boys allowed to take dance?

Boys are more than welcome to sign up! This year we have 6 boys in the program but we’d love to have more.


What styles of Dance will I learn about?

In Dance class, you will study different styles of dance such as jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop and modern. We will also put together a dance production at the end of the year.


What do I wear for Dance class?

During a typical school year, you will dress out for class every day into a Cedar Valley Dance Shirt, black leggings and black jazz shoes.


What performances will I have as a Level I dancer?

During a typical school year, as a Level I Dancer, you will be part of the annual dance show, Spring Spectacular, which is held in April. If we are not able to have a live Spring performance, it will be virtual.


What credit(s) can I get for taking Dance?

You can recieve PE credit for taking Dance class. You also could take both PE and Dance as one of your electives your 6th grade year and PE/Athletics and Dance as one of your electives your 7th and 8th grade year.


If you take at least 2 years of Middle School Dance, you may enroll in an Advanced Dance I class your Freshman year of high school. As of now, Middle School Dance does not offer a high school credit option.


What else will I experience in Dance class besides just learning how to dance?

  • You will learn how to work together as a team to create art.

  • You will develop friendships and have fun.

  • You will get to try new things, practice performance skills and experience the amazing results of hard work.
