Why Join Orchestra

Welcome to the Cedar Valley Orchestra

The Orchestra is one of the many fine arts programs that you will be able to be part of as a sixth grader at Cedar Valley. Students will be allowed to choose one of five instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Harp. No previous musical experience is necessary (except harp for 3 years piano study.) Instruments may be rented at various music stores throughout the city. There are also some instruments that may be rented at school.

Students in Orchestra will learn to read music, play a stringed instrument, and be part of a performing group. The orchestra performs at least four concerts a year, plus other competitions and activities. There is also a big fun trip at the end of the year! This year the orchestra will be going to Schlitterbahn again.

The students who have been playing the string instrument such as Bass, Cello, Viola, Violin, Harp for a while, and wish to have an audition for the placement will be virtual in 2021. Please email the orchestra director. If you are aiming for Intermediate Orchestra, you should prepare for two octaves scales in G. C.D.F plus your solo. If you are aiming for Honor Orchestra, you should prepare for two octaves scales in G. C.D.F.Bb plus your solo. The result of the audition will be posted on the Cedar Valley Orchestra website if the student made the Intermediate or the Honor Orchestra after the audition. If you couldn’t find your name on the class list of Intermediate nor Honor Orchestra, you should register for the Beginner Orchestra class.

I would like to invite all incoming sixth graders to sign up for Orchestra, or any of our other fine arts electives. Playing music will give you a sense of pride, joy, and fun! For more information, please contact:
