Discovery is a class for 6th and 7th graders at Cedar Valley Middle School which aids in the transition from elementary school to middle school and learning study skills to help them be a successful student.

In this class, we explore and learn the fundamentals of the 10 Executive Functioning Skills: Planning, Organization, Time Management, Task Initiation, Working Memory, Metacognition, Self-Control, Sustained Attention, Flexibility and Perseverance. After learning the characteristics of these skills we then apply them to situations to help students become more successful not only in school, but also in life.

We also work on choosing specific goals that are measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (SMART), research projects, study skills for tests, note-taking, self-discovery of topics students are interested in, and social, emotional learning lessons.
