In our first Year 8 unit we examine the main changes in Britain from the Tudors and Stuarts to the Georgians and follow up with an examination of the key developments during The Industrial Revolution - we explore changes in working lives from the domestic system to factory work and on the significance of the inventions and technological developments of the age. In Terrible Towns we examine the social changes - the growth of new towns and the problems associated, including overcrowding and poor sanitary conditions. Our next unit looks at Britain's involvement in The Transatlantic Slave Trade, and its abolition in 1807.
The second half of our Year 8 studies includes an exploration of the causes of the two global conflicts (Into the 20th Century & The Second World War). In between, we focus on notions of power (Who Rules?) and different ways to rule a country, with an analysis of the key features of democracy and dictatorship, leading into a short depth study on the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and what life was like in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s.
Our final unit - Into the Modern World - brings us up to the present day, and provides pupils with a valuable opportunity to engage in some engaging group work as we explore the key features of each decade from the 50s to the 10s!
