In Year 7 we begin with a short introductory unit - 1066 & All That - to develop key skills – a sense of chronology and place, source analysis, causation and consequence, and change and continuity. We then focus on the medieval period, beginning with the The Norman Conquest and with a depth study on the development of castles. In Medieval Life and Health & Medicine units we examine what mattered to medieval people, with a particular exploration of religion and beliefs, the perceived causes of the Black Death and subsequent treatments.
In our studies on the Early Modern period (Meet the Tudors; Elizabethan England), we examine what mattered to King Henry VIII, and his heirs and evaluate why the Elizabethan period is seen as a ‘Golden Age’, taking in an overview of the religious turbulence of the period.
By the end of Year 7, we will have also explored the reign of the Stuart Kings - James I and Charles I, the Civil War and Cromwell's Commonwealth and key features of Restoration London, including the Great Plague and Fire of London, and the rebuilding of the city that followed.
