Participating schools agree to a set time to meet each week and join their class with the Rosmini students for a short 8 to 10 minute lesson on a chosen topic. Since 2005 OtBF has delivered thousands of lessons on hundreds of different topics to thousands of students across 14 different countries.
Some of the Topics Include:
Farm Safety
Sugar in Drinks
Importance of Exercise
How to Wash your Hands
Portion (food) sizes
Playground Safety
Diabetes
Building Confidence
Stop Bullying
Working in Groups
Hygiene
Health Lunches
Protecting your Hearing
Sun Safety
• If your students would like to have Rosmini College students teach Health/Wellness Lessons to your class (either whole class or a small group within your class) please following these steps -
1. Send an email to the programme administrator: gwood@rosmini.school.nz indicating your interest.
2. You will be sent a registrations form (also found here) to complete and return. That form will ask you to give the name of the school, the name of the class and teacher, and contact details. The second part of the form asks you to indicate the list of topics that you would like to be delivered to your class (tick those topics and the time of the year you want those lessons taught -- to fit alongside themes being taught in the classroom at that time).
3. IMPORTANT: Lessons can only be taught within the timeframe listed (usually 3-4 available times within the 40 minute time posted. The Rosmini students are only available to teach during those posted times.
4. NOT a New Zealand School? If your school is in another country, you need to consider the time difference between when our students are in class and when your students want the lesson. See the time difference tables shown below BUT please be also aware that New Zealand moves it's clocks forward or back at different times (Day-Light Savings). We move our clocks forward (Dy-Light Savings) one-hour from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April.
Also check out the New Zealand School Calendar for holiday times (below)
5. Ready to Connect: We have agreed upon a set time(s) that our students will meet each week (and also informed of dates when our students can not meet-examinations, trips, holidays, etc.). WE have sent you a url (www.zoom.us) to use for our connections and two simple additional steps needs to make the connection, including a 10-digit meeting room number. We operate several meetings rooms at times as there may be several classes meeting separately at the same or adjoining times. From time to time, with permission, we often connect the different classes, meeting at the same time, to each other.
SIMPLE RULES to MAKE CONNECTIONS SUCCESSFUL:
We have been doing this for many years and have found that each classroom, the students and teacher are different, therefore we share the following tips/rules to make each connection successful.
a. manners (not talking or shuffling/moving objects when other people are talking, not shouting out-put the hand up to be called upon, not waving or making faces at the camera, etc);
b. speaking slowly and clearly to the microphone -- IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE CLASS IS CLOSE TO THE MICROPHONE AND CAMERA;
d. Understand that the Rosmini students are not trained teachers -- they are also learning as they go
e. Let us know if there is a problem, and if your class can not meet (in advance)
f. Give our students constructive-positive feedback so they can make their lessons better
