There are 41 issues scheduled for the 2020 edition -- Starting the week of February 3 and ending the week of November 30.
Each issue (week) has a different theme (see list below) that students may report on, as well as add local, regional and national news stories.
For my students, they select weeks/themes they would like to report on, and add that information and supporting photographs onto the template section that has been identified with their school. (We try and rotate the order of the schools each week.) I ask the students to keep their report short and easy to read and WITH NO FORMATTING. The formatting will be done by the editors at the end of the week so we have a consistent look to each each issue. We use Arial type, size 12.
Students identify their work, either collectively at the end of their work, or at the end of each piece they enter. Students ONLY use their first name and the initial of their family name and their class name (e.g. Seone P, 7GSS)
Photographs help colour the issues and are worth many words of description. Photographs should be a max of 1/4 of a page in width, and fit within one of the template cell borders. If you have a wider or taller photograph, you may merge several cells. The same goes for print text also. You may merge, split the template cells.
To alter the template click on "Format" and scroll down to "Table" where the editing commands are. If you need more space, repeat the same and Click on "Insert Line".
SPECIAL ISSUES: From time to time I am asked if we can publish a special issue on a topic/subject -- such as student art work (see Supplements
https://sites.google.com/rosmini.school.nz/global-connections/student-global-newspaper ) Any teacherthat is interested in publishing their students work, or projects is welcome to do so, or add to the special work published.
Teachers: We would appreciate either yourself or an appointed student try and edit your students work at the end of each week... perhaps you might want to give those students that contribute some credit for the work they have submitted? Please check on the appropriateness of language and information. Rosmini College -- Over the Back Fence Project has the right to remove any inappropriate material/content.
IMPORTANT: We recognise that every school has a different schedule than the other schools, therefore in order to ensure all issues are filled, please work ahead of holidays, examination times to ensure no edition is left empty. HINT: My students, as mentioned above, select those themes they wish to contribute to. This allows the students to be working on their making and uploading their contribution in advance so when holidays come up, their work is already on the page for those issues.
If you need assistance, please contact use via the contact link above, rather than writing in the newspaper pages. Note samples from previous years can be linked from the Home Page. https://sites.google.com/rosmini.school.nz/global-connections/student-global-newspaper
