The Safe Journey 2020 Project will start mid March.
Your task is to work in your project groups to decide what issue THE PROBLEM your group will examine. You will then (as a group) decide what your groups SOLUTION is to that issue/problem.
MR WOOD IS CURRENTLY SETTING UP YOUR GROUP'S PAGE -- so do not proceed further, other than think of possible issues (as we did in the classroom).
Once your group's page is ready, your group can work through the questions below.
MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS SHARE THE GOOGLE DOC WITH MR. WOOD AT gwood@rosmini.school.nz AND ALL MEMBERS OF YOUR GROUP
• Goal for project: i.e. To reduce the number and severity of injuries and deaths resulting from___________ at/on ____________. (Example: The 7SCB Safe Pedestrian group's goal is to reduce the number and severity of injuries and deaths resulting from falls by elderly people walking in uneven pathways.)
THE FOLLOWING FOLLOWING QUESTIONS will be found on your groups working document (template):
• Names and email numbers for group members (DO NOT ENTER EMAILS ON TO THE GROUP PAGE).
• State the Problem/Goal (answer each of these questions):
- Who are people injured
- What at the people doing when becoming injured?
- Where are these injuries occurring?
- Why are these injuries occurring?
- When are the injuries occurring?
- How are these injuries occurring?
• Using websites such as Auckland Transport and New Zealand Transportation Agency, Safetylit.com, ACC, Safekids, etc find out
+ List the type of injury
+ List the number of injuries/deaths per year (NZ students are to use NZ statistics only. Students from other countries should use their own countries statistics)
• Enter this information into a Google.doc for your group. Label the Doc CLASS AND TOPIC clearly, for example 7SCB-Motorways, or Kenterton-Trucks and Vans
• Share that document with your group members and Mr Wood gwood@rosmini.school.nz. Mr Wood will link your document onto this page (see below) and add a link button
HINT: When you build your document use Arial Font. Size 12. Do not add colour, highlights, italics, etc. Keep your document clean and simple. We can ‘jazz’ it up later.
• Continue to add to the information on your document so as to build a good understanding of the PROBLEM
• In class, your teacher will then help you identify the key problem that might be something your group might try and solve. You are not going to be able to build roads and bridges, but you might be able to influence the behaviour of people who cross the road without looking, or you use cell phones when driving.
• Your group will continue to work on their document from school and home and also be able to see what other groups are doing.
• Make sure that each contribution you make on the document has your name at the end so we can identify who in the group is contributing and who is not. Show as follows (John B-7JJK)
• After you have come to agreement on what solution might work, we want you to try the idea out and find out how it works and get some feedback.
• This phase of the project should be finished by the end of June.
• Presentation of your group’s project will take place later in the year -- OCTOBER. The presentation will consist of a max of 5 slides (Google slides). 1. Title page and group members; 2. Statement of the Problem and how big the problem is; 3. Solution and Why you chose that solution; 4. What you did to test your solution and 5. The Result and conclusion.
