.) At the top of the page provide your name, the date, the course, the chapter or section (if applicable), and the unit with the specific topic of study.
.) Divide the paper vertically into two columns with a line about 2 inches from the left side of the page. The lefthand column is your Main Ideas and the right hand column is where you take Notes.
.) In the Note-taking area (right column), provide your notes in your own words in a concise format. Do not copy the information word for word.
.) Once you have completed the lesson or reading, summarize your notes under Main Ideas (left column) by addressing the main ideas, key concepts, important vocabulary, helpful diagrams, etc.
.) Provide a brief paragraph that summarizes the notes you have completed. It should connect all of the main ideas. Do not skip this part! This will not only show the connectivity of what you've covered but will also be helpful when you are studying for assessments.
