Other civilizations throughout history had made technological innovations before this, but not quite like this. The maritime advancements especially for Europeans is part of the reason they were able to navigate to the new world. Also a bunch of other reasons, but we'll look more at those in the next few lessons. Understanding how the world's oceans worked, how to navigate them, and advancements in transportation made all of this possible.

Historical Developments in 4.1 Technological Innovations 

• Knowledge, scientific learning, and technology from the Classical, Islamic, and Asian worlds spread, facilitating European technological developments and innovation.

• The developments included the production of new tools, innovations in ship designs, an improved understanding of regional wind and currents patterns--all of which made transoceanic travel and trade possible.
