This unit so far has consisted of the developments in Afro-Eurasia. In this lesson on the Americas, we look at many of the civilizations that flourished well before the arrival of Columbus. Some of these civilizations include the Mayans, Chaco, Aztecs, Incas, etc. Each of these civilizations managed to build powerful empires and innovations rather independently, as there was very limited trade amongst them.

In the Americas, as in Afro-Eurasia, state systems demonstrated continuity, innovation, and diversity, and expanded in scope and reach.
