Strive Virtual College Exploration Week

The panel presentations include topics ranging from:

  • Finding college fit

  • Essay writing

  • Visits (on-campus and virtual)

  • In-state options vs. Going out of state

All presentations are 45 minutes in length. Students can browse the schedule or search based on topic, state, or specific college/university. They can also get more information on each institution presenting, including the school’s location, size, average GPA, test scores, and Test Optional status.

“Design It, Build It, Keep It!”

Blue Ridge Community College, in partnership with the University of Virginia, is offering high schoolers the opportunity to explore careers in Advanced Manufacturing, while also earning college credits. Through funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), these four courses are being offered free of charge!

The ideal candidate is a rising high school senior. Other high schoolers with STEM interests may apply. All courses will be held in the BRCC Advanced Technology Center.

Also, many colleges are creating virtual Campus Tours and Open House options for students to learn more about the college. Check the website of the colleges you’re interested in to see if they offer these opportunities.

VA College Exploration Program

In partnership with VACRAO and StriveScan, directors from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Virginia Tech will be participating in the Virginia College Exploration Program. Virginia students and counselors have access to free virtual college admissions panels and college fairs over the next eight weeks with over 100 institutions represented! Additional information can be found on a flyer here. We hope it will be shared with your students.

  • take the Career Cluster Finder assessment

  • create a multi-year plan to draft your future high school courses

  • research colleges you're interested in

  • explore careers, career clusters, and career pathways

  • watch "Road Trip Nation" videos of people in their careers

  • update your Activities Record (in upper right corner, go to About Me, My Stuff, My Surveys, Activities Record)

Career Interviews

Click here to read a variety of local employee interviews about their career. One thing you'll notice is that many of their stories include a chance encounter or unexpected event that led to a career opportunity. Many of them also mention the importance of role models and job shadowing experiences.
