Action Steps
The subcommittee will examine the current Board of Education Policy surrounding academic awards and graduation honors.
The subcommittee will outline how the district will define honor graduates (latin, general awards, top 10 etc.).
The district will explore having an academic excellence recognition at graduation and will identify Valedictorian and Salutatorian after the close of the academic year on June 30th.
Help students to recognize educational needs and be advocates for their own learning
Develop vertical collaboration between grade levels and schools (elementary to middle to high)
Continue to explore small group instruction and the modern classroom and possibly expand over time
Readiness surveys at schools - District and School Readiness Matrix: Planning for Personalized Learning
Communicate with staff on how these components align with MTSS and that our district language is also aligned (through professional development opportunities)
In order to remove barriers for students and strengthen overall school improvement efforts, RCS will continue to expand the capacity of the district to implement MTSS with fidelity through training educators on research-based practices, using data to inform educational decision making, acquiring the necessary resources to support the work, and refining the provision of academic, behavioral, emotional wellbeing, and attendance interventions.
Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being and mental health in supporting academic success, improved behavior and school culture, and social skill development for success in college, career, and life, Rockingham County Schools, through a collaborative and comprehensive approach will create access to a full continuum of high-quality and well-coordinated student support services and mental health services for each and every student.
