switches between RC and autonomous vehicle modes
Curiosity Mars Rover - NASA/JPL opensource
1/3 scale model
initially built as RC vehicle w/ planned upgrades to autonomous
This project was scrapped because of the cost of ~$2500 each. SAWPPY rovers were built instead at ~$500 each.

Robot Recipes
Project to help the public better understand how robots work. This will augment Robot Garden public outreach events.
Use standard restaurant sheet pans (18" x 26") as a template to outline & explain components & subcomponents of a robot. Permanently affix components to the sheet pan so that they can be easily displayed at public outreach events. Each sheet pan will outline a different type of component.
To simplify storage and transportation of these trays, sheet pans will be stored in a standard "speed rack" used at restaurants. An enclosed speed rack with a fabric cover is preferred long term storage container to keep dust and grime off of the display items. Speed racks hold between 20-40 sheet pans.
Where appropriate, display pans could be wired w/ DC power so that components such as motors & actuators can be put into motion by the public via a switch or button.
