Robot Garden owns a Nomad 883 CNC Mill. This machine is available for use by Robot Garden members and their supervised guests. Anyone using this machine must first take and pass the required Safety & Basic Use class (SBU). The training consists of four topics plus a hands-on Usage Test (UT). Experienced makers & builders can have the class waived. Contact classes@robotgarden.org to register and discuss options.

- SAFETY & BASIC USE (SBU) -

(1) ONLINE STUDY MATERIALS - Free self-directed study materials are available online (after registering) as part of our Google Classroom curriculum for this device. The four topics covered are Machine Basics, Safety, Software Usage, Machine Usage.

(2) ONLINE QUIZZES - Quizzes are embedded in this curriculum to ensure you fully understand the materials. Users must pass these open-book quizzes before proceeding with a hands-on on-site test project. The on-site project can be scheduled only after passing all quizzes.

(3) USAGE TEST (UT) - After the study materials and quizzes have been completed, a final on-site Usage Test will be scheduled and administered before each user is certified to use this machine. A hands-on project is completed as part of this test to provide first time supervised usage of the equipment and to ensure that the user demonstrates needed competence to use this device. A $25 fee is charged for this on-site hands-on test.

The study materials and the hands-on test are intended to provide the user with real world experience using this machine and should leave them more confident in their ability to safely and easily use this Nomad 883.
