There are two main kinds of sleep
REM(rapid eye movement) sleep where your brain is active and you are dreaming
NREM (non rapid eye movement) sleep is when you are in a deep sleep
Both of these together form a cycle of sleep. You will go through many cycles in one night.
Your mind relaxes during sleep.
You grow when you sleep. Do you want to get taller?
Your body repairs itself during sleep.
5 year olds need 11 hours
10 year olds need 10 hours
15 year olds need 9 hours
You don’t want to get up in the morning.
You could fall asleep during class, daydream, yawn, be in a bad mood.
Learning and concentration are difficult. You make more mistakes.
Exercise
Avoid colas, coffee and caffeinated drinks
Set a regular bedtime and wake time
Turn off electronic devices, computers, phones and tv an hour before bed
Talk about anything that’s worrying you with a friend, parent, or trusted adult
