Dear Families,
Time flies when you’re having fun - I can hardly believe that December is almost here! Over the past fortnight, Roselands has been buzzing with exciting learning opportunities for our children, and it’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm in action.
As we enter December, we are eagerly looking forward to the children sharing their Christmas performances. 🎄 Please see below for a reminder of all key dates so you don’t miss any of the festive fun.
🧑🎄 The elves will be popping into school this evening to sprinkle some Christmas magic, ensuring the children return on Monday to a school full of festive cheer. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated decorations, and to the PSA for sourcing even more - your generosity and support make a real difference.
This week, we also launched Medical Tracker, an exciting new development that allows us to efficiently track medical needs and accidents. We are thrilled about the benefits this will bring to our school and the added peace of mind for parents and staff alike.
I wanted to inform you that sadly, Mrs Kendall will be leaving her post as Mealtime Assistant on Thursday next week. Mrs Kendall has been a much loved member of our Roselands team and will be greatly missed by children and staff alike. We wish her luck in her new role and know that she will continue to have a positive impact on the children that she works with. We are excited that Mrs Pickering will be stepping into the Mealtime Assistant post, a role that she has taken on temporarily already!
I hope that you have a wonderful weekend and can't wait to see the children's faces on Monday morning! 🤩
Kind regards,
Mrs Pippa Bastock
Thank you to the 54 parents and carers who took the time to complete our recent survey. We were delighted to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback, and it’s wonderful to hear that so many of you are happy with the learning experiences and community we provide. Your kind comments about staff have been passed on to them; they truly appreciate your recognition and encouragement.
A few individual suggestions were also made, which we are carefully considering as part of our ongoing commitment to improve and grow.
Your input is invaluable, and we want you to know that we are listening and acting on feedback. Thank you for helping us make our school the best it can be for every child. ⭐
Last Thursday, Topaz class visited Paignton College to take part in an athletics tournament against 7 other local schools. The children completed a total of 8 different activities including speed bounce, obstacle course, high jump, long jump and sprints. The children represented Roselands superbly and many of the class achieved the highest scores overall.
On Wednesday after school, a group of year 6 children took to the waves to begin creating their own radio show supported by Mark and Charlie from Sound Communities. The children used a soundboard to record words and phrases and then they used these to create their own slogans. They also used an app on the chrome books to create music in different styles.
This week children in year 3 and 4 learnt how historians found out about Prehistoric Britain. They didn’t have writing to learn from so they learnt from artefacts, ecofacts and features. They became archaeologists and discovered some hidden artefacts.
It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks of football across the school! 🌟
Our Year 3/4 footballers have been brilliant, with two different teams representing the school and showing superb teamwork, effort, and determination throughout their matches.
One Year 3/4 team played two strong fixtures, finishing with:
⚽️ 2-1 win
⚽️ 1-1 draw
Meanwhile, a second Year 3/4 team took part in the Paignton tournament, delivering two outstanding results of their own:
⚽️ 3-2 win against Preston
⚽️ 8-0 win against Curledge Street ⭐
Our Year 5/6 girls’ football team (with a little help from Year 4) also impressed. In their first match against Oldway, they showed real resilience, battling hard in the second half despite a 2-0 scoreline. They bounced back superbly in their next fixture with a well-deserved 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart. ⭐
A huge thank you to Mr Lowther and Mrs Gendall for their continued support in making these matches and tournament opportunities possible. 🙏
Three of our wonderful children went to Torbay Leisure Centre to represent Roselands in the Boccia School Games this week. They were absolutely thrilled to have won first place and have been invited back for the finals which will take place next year! Well done to you all, we are so incredibly proud of you and your trophy is well deserved!
