Dear Families,
We are now well and truly into the Autumn term at Roselands 🍂. The children have settled brilliantly into school routines, and there has been lots of exciting learning taking place across every year group! Last week we sent out a survey to check in with the parents and carers of our new reception children. The results of this were overwhelmingly positive with 100% of parents saying that their child has settled in well and that their child is safe at school. We are so grateful to all of you who took the time to fill this in and we will be spending time going through all of the responses in detail next week. 🤩
You may have noticed some changes to lunchtimes for our KS2 children 🥪🍎. They are now all eating together in the hall, rather than school meals and packed lunches being separated. This has been working really well so far, and we’ve ordered some extra tables and benches to make the experience even better.
Last week, Mrs Joiner led Phonics workshops for parents and carers of our Reception and Year 1 children ✏️📖. It was wonderful to see so many of you there! Phonics is such an important foundation for learning to read, and it makes a huge difference when children are supported at home too.
I also had the pleasure of meeting with the PSA recently, and hopefully you’ve had the chance to read the letter that was emailed out with details of all the exciting upcoming events 🎉. Thank you so much to everyone who gives their time to support the school. Our brand-new iPads have also arrived this week 💻, and we’re excited for the children to start using them - this wouldn’t have been possible without your generosity and support.
Finally, I met with the House Captains this week and asked them to start thinking about which charities they would like to support and how they plan to do so 💡💛. The dates for house events will remain the same, but the house allocations may change depending on the children’s ideas. This has bene updated in the 'dates' section of the newsletter.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend 🌟. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

At Roselands, we take pride in promoting British Values, and this week our children put democracy into practice by voting for their new class School Council representatives. The results were announced in assembly on Monday 👏, and we are delighted to congratulate our newly elected school council members.
The School Council plays an important role in helping shape positive change within our school community 🌱. Miss Drohan will be arranging the first meeting very soon, where the representatives will begin sharing ideas 💡 and working together 🤝. They are starting by thinking about how they could improve the playground at lunchtimes.
This year, Amethyst, Aquamarine and The Bay will be represented by Year 6 children, ensuring that every child’s voice is heard 🗣️. We are confident that our excellent new representatives will work hard to make a real difference ✨.
The children in the EYFS have been learning about the 'Colour Monster' and how colours can be used to represent feelings. We have been creating our own Colour Monsters using four colours: blue-sad, red-angry, yellow-happy and green-calm. The children used straws to blow onto a blob of paint to make it spread and then added features to make their own monster. We discussed how we were feeling while creating our monsters and thought about times when we had felt different emotions.
The KS1 children have been really enjoying learning about their local area in their Geography lessons. We have spoken about how important an address is, we have used Google Earth to locate different landmarks in Paignton and we have even been out to prove that our school really is located in Lynmouth Avenue by finding the road sign!
KS1 have also been learning about how people show that they belong in our R.E lessons. We started off this unit of learning by creating special boxes for homework and then we brought them in to share with our classes. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for supporting this activity and giving it such an exciting, personal focus.
This week in year 5 and 6 our classes investigated which surfaces caused the most friction to occur. The children were set the challenge to use the Newton meters to measure the force required to pull a shoe a particular distance across different surfaces.
Harriet entered the Agatha Christie Mystery Story Writing Competition for the Agatha Christie Festival and we are thrilled to learn that she came 2nd for her age category! Her story has been published on the website and it is truly fabulous!
Well done Harriet - we are so proud of you!
The new pre-loved uniform unit in the main reception has been a huge hit so far! If you need some extra uniform, feel free to pop in and take a look. By reusing and recycling, we can all do our part to stay sustainable. ♻️
Each week, we shine a light on class attendance to celebrate consistency and encourage everyone to aim high! Check out how each class is doing and let’s keep up the great effort. Every day counts - let’s aim for everybody to be an attendance hero!
