Dear Families,
The length of this newsletter shows just how busy our first fortnight of the half term has been! Roselands has been a real hub of activity and learning. We’ve enjoyed sports fixtures, school council assemblies, Odd Socks Day, fireworks and so much more! The headings above will help you navigate to the sections you’re most interested in.
Christmas rehearsals have now begun in earnest! Please see the letter that was emailed last week for more details about booking tickets. A big thank you to everyone who has already searched through their Christmas decorations and donated items to help us transform Roselands for the children after school on Friday 28th November. Please do keep them coming - every contribution makes a difference! 🎄
As the colder months approach, please ensure that all children are bringing a coat to school every day. We try to get them outside as much as possible, but the weather can be unpredictable, so a warm coat will help keep them comfortable during outdoor activities and breaks. 🧣
Lastly, on the 25th November, we will be having a collection from 'Bag2School'. This is a free eco-friendly fundraising scheme that helps us to raise funds through textile recycling as well as spreading textile recycling awareness. If you have any clothes at home that you no longer need and wish to recycle, please bag them up and bring them in on this day and drop them to the front office. ♻️
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Pippa Bastock
Over the half term, we were thrilled to have a brand-new shelter built for our EYFS children! 🎉
The children have loved using this new space, especially when the weather hasn’t been on our side - it’s perfect for staying dry while still enjoying outdoor play. ☔💛
A huge thank you to our PSA, whose fundraising efforts made this possible. Every penny they raise goes directly back into our school, helping to create fantastic opportunities for our pupils. 💙
We are lucky to have a small but dedicated PSA team - and we’d love more parents and carers to get involved! Your support, big or small, makes a real difference to our school community. 🙌
What an amazing evening we had at our Roselands Fireworks Night last week! 🎇✨ A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the event - it was wonderful to see so many families, friends, and members of our community enjoying the celebration together. 💙💛
This special night wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible hard work and dedication of our PSA team, especially Ame, Claire, and Jade, who put so much time and energy into making it a success. 👏🎉
A big shoutout as well to all of our school staff who helped make the evening run smoothly - particularly Mrs Chapman and Mr Butcher for their amazing effort and organisation - and to everyone who volunteered their time to help before, during, and after the event. 🙌💫
We’d also like to thank our fantastic vendors and entertainers for providing such great food, treats, and entertainment - you helped make the night extra special! 🍔🍭☕
It was a brilliant evening full of community spirit, laughter, and sparkle - thank you all for making it such a memorable event! 🎆💙
This half term, our whole school began a brand-new Jigsaw PSHE unit: Celebrating Differences. 🧩✨
Through this unit, children will be exploring what makes each of us unique and special, while learning to appreciate and respect the differences that make our school community so vibrant and inclusive. 💙
Across all year groups, pupils will take part in thoughtful discussions, activities and stories that help them:
💭 Understand that we are all different
🤝 Show kindness, empathy, and respect towards others
💬 Learn how to stand up for themselves and others in a positive way
🌍 Celebrate the diverse world we live in
At Roselands, we’re proud to promote a culture where everyone feels valued, included, and celebrated and we can’t wait to see the wonderful learning and conversations that come from this term’s theme! 🌟
We also took part in Anti-bullying week, starting by showing off our odd socks (and in Mr Butcher's case - odd shoes!) to demonstrate that we are each individual and that our uniqueness is to be celebrated! 🧦
Our Year 5/6 boys’ football teams did Roselands proud this week with two fantastic evenings of football! 💪💙
On Monday, one team travelled to Paignton Academy and delivered an incredible set of performances, showing brilliant teamwork, determination, and skill throughout. ⚡
🏆 Match Results:
⚽ Roselands 2–0 Oldway
⚽ Roselands 3–1 Curledge Street
⚽ Roselands 2–1 Kings Ash
Three fantastic wins for our talented players! 🎉👏
Then, on Tuesday, another Y5/6 team faced tough conditions away at Brixham, battling heavy wind and rain against strong sides from Brixham C of E and Furzeham. Despite the results not going our way this time, the boys showed real grit, teamwork, and resilience from start to finish - a true credit to Roselands! 🌧️⚽💪
A huge well done to all our players for their hard work and positive attitude and a big thank you to Mr Wearing and our brilliant supporters for cheering the teams on. 🙌💛
Over the last few weeks our incredible school council have been on a sneaky mission to find out which classrooms and areas around school have been the least eco-conscious with their electricity usage (not turning the lights off in rooms and leaving the teaching boards on when no one is in the room). On Monday, our Senior School Council planned and delivered a whole school assembly to share the school council's findings and the impact this can have on our planet. Senior School Council then launched our Switch it off Campaign! The class who save the most energy by turning off lights and electrical appliances when not in use will be rewarded with 5 minutes of extra breaktime at the end of the two-week campaign. 💡
Each year, year 5 and 6 take part in Operation Christmas Child as part of their courageous advocacy project. The children across the 2 year groups managed to fill 14 shoeboxes full of gifts which will be sent to children who are much less fortunate than them in countries experiencing conflict. In addition to this, one of our families donated 30 filled shoeboxes so we were able to take 44 shoe boxes to Preston Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon. The Church volunteers were incredibly grateful for our donations and informed the children that they will ring the school to inform them of where the shoeboxes are sent.
The children should be extremely proud of their kindness and generosity - well done to everyone involved for making such a wonderful difference!
To those of you who don't already know him, we are delighted to introduce Finley, Miss McDade’s gorgeous cocker spaniel, who works at Roselands each week on Mondays and Wednesdays. Finley’s main jobs are greeting the children as they arrive to school and providing a friendly face and a wagging tail for children during the day, and he particularly enjoys spending time on the playground. 🦴
Research has shown that having a school dog can bring a wide range of benefits, including improvements in well-being, learning, and behaviour. The children will be finding out more about Finley and his important role in school during a special assembly later this half term. 🦮
Over the last couple of weeks, we have been inviting parents and carers to complete our school survey. As mentioned in our last newsletter, we always take time to carefully review the results and act on the feedback we receive. Your input is incredibly valuable in helping us continue to improve our school and ensure we provide the best possible experience for our children and families.
Please spend a few minutes completing this as the more responses we get, the more likely we are to be able to make changes that are important to everyone, as well as recognise what is going well!
Each fortnight, we shine a light on class attendance to celebrate and encourage everyone to aim high! Check out how each class is doing and let’s keep up the effort. Every day counts - let’s aim for everybody to be an attendance hero!
Well done to Emerald with 99%, Ruby with 98% and Opal with 97%!
