Dear Families,
It is a pleasure to share the first of our fortnightly newsletters with you! We are delighted to see the children returning after the summer break, and we have been so impressed with how quickly they have settled back into school routines.
Last week was dedicated to team-building activities and the launch of our new Personal Development unit – you can find more details about this below. This week marks our first full week back, and the children have been following their new timetables. These are available on the year group pages of the school website for your reference.
We have a busy and exciting half term ahead. Please take a moment to read the Welcome Back letter that was sent out on 2.9.25, which contains key information for this half term. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We look forward to working with you and your children in the weeks ahead.
Mrs Pippa Bastock
I’m really pleased to introduce myself as the new Deputy Head at Roselands Primary School. It’s a real privilege to be joining such a lovely school community, everyone has made me feel so welcome and the children are wonderful and a credit to you all.
Supporting children to feel happy, confident, and that they belong is something I care deeply about, and I’m here to help make sure every child enjoys a positive, sociable and successful school experience.
You’ll often see me on the school gate in the mornings and afternoons - please don’t hesitate to come and say hello or have a chat. I’m always happy to talk, whether it’s about your child, school life in general, or just to introduce yourself.
I’m so looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and being part of the Roselands team.
What a joyful first week it’s been with our lovely new Reception children! From the moment they stepped through the door, they have filled our classrooms with curiosity, laughter and fun!
They've explored every corner of the classroom - from building towers taller than themselves to whipping up cakes in the mud kitchen. They’ve played beautifully with one another and shown us how well they can share and take turns.
Our little ones are already learning our daily routines with such enthusiasm and confidence. We’ve seen brave first goodbyes, proud smiles, and wide-eyed wonder at all the new things to discover.
This first week of school is a memory you’ll treasure forever - a small but mighty step into a new world of friendships, learning, and independence. And we feel so lucky to be walking beside them on this journey.
Here’s to a beautiful start at Roselands, and to all the magic still to come.
We always begin a new half term with team-building activities, which is especially important after the long summer break. In KS1, the children took part in a lovely activity - making a friendship bracelet for a new friend in their team. 💫💛 Thank you to Charlie and Teddy who told us about this activity in the whole school assembly this morning!
Over the past 18 months, our school garden has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of the children. They’ve been busy weeding, planting, watering, and caring for the garden, and their efforts are paying off in a big way. We’re excited to share that some of the fruits and vegetables they’ve helped grow will now be making their way into our school meals. A huge thank you goes to Mrs. Chapman and her team, whose dedication has made this project possible.
Thank you Rudy for explaining this to everybody in our whole school assembly this morning!
This week, parents in Years 1-6 were invited to meet the teachers within their child’s new phase and learn more about the curriculum, expectations, and plans for the year ahead. Thank you to all of those who attended, we hope that you found it informative!

Today the children discovered who their new House Captains will be. This is an important role within our school community, and we were incredibly proud of the number of thoughtful and inspiring letters submitted. The decision was extremely difficult, as so many children put themselves forward and impressed us with their ideas and enthusiasm.
Congratulations to our new House Captains, who are listed below. We are sure that they will lead their houses brilliantly and look forward to hearing their ideas for the year ahead.
We were also delighted to announce our new Senior School Council members. This was once again a very difficult decision, as so many children wrote thoughtful letters filled with brilliant ideas. The Senior School Council will play an important role throughout the year by attending school council meetings, bringing forward ideas, and sharing key messages with the whole school afterwards. These meetings will be led by Miss Drohan, who will be guiding the council in their work.
A huge congratulations to our new Senior School Council representatives: Ahmed, Darcy, Jack, Jessica, Mckenzie, and Olivia. We are so proud of you and look forward to seeing the positive impact you will make!
We are delighted to announce that we have specialist music teachers who can offer private instrumental and singing lessons in school.

The new school lunches have been going down well in the hall over the last week! Here is a reminder of the menu for this half term. Thank you for your patience whilst we transition over to the new ordering system, we understand that there have been issues for some families and we have been working hard to resolve these.
We have also been trialling a new lunchtime system where the children who are packed lunches in KS2 can join their peers in the hall to eat - this is still a work in progress but we have made a promising start!
Please note that there was an error on the dates in the letter that was sent home last week - there are non pupil days on both the 1st and 2nd June in the final half term of the year, with children returning to school on the 3rd. Apologies for any confusion.
