Happy Easter - School Reopens on Tuesday 14th April 2026
At Risca Primary School, we are excited to be trialling a newly designed school menu for our children. We are proud to be the only school in Caerphilly taking part in this trial and are working closely with Public Health Wales and other partners to ensure its success. Our aim is to provide healthy, balanced meals that all children can enjoy.
Our school meals are provided by Caerphilly Catering and follow a four-week menu cycle, offering a wide variety of choice each day. All food and drinks meet the requirements of the Healthy Eating in Schools (Nutritional Standards & Requirements) (Wales) Regulations, ensuring high-quality, nutritious meals.
Children simply let their teacher know during registration if they would like a school dinner that day. Since September 2023, all primary school pupils are entitled to a free school meal (please note this does not include part-time nursery pupils).

In Wales, all primary school children now have access to Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM). This means that all children in maintained Primary Schools, from Reception to Year 6, are eligible for a free, nutritious meal at lunchtime, regardless of their family's income or benefit status.
Families who meet certain criteria, for example those on lower incomes or in receipt of certain benefits, may be eligible to apply for eFSM. Even if you receive a Universal Free School Meal for your child, you should still apply for Free School Meals (eFSM) as this may entitle you to other benefits such as support with purchasing school uniform (School Essential Grant). Further information on eFSM can be found on Caerphilly Council’s Website at Caerphilly - Caerphilly County Borough
