🧑⚕️Health Guidance
At Risca Primary School, we understand that it can sometimes be difficult to decide whether your child is well enough to attend school. The following guidance is designed to help you make the best decision.
Not every illness requires time off school. However, if your child is unwell and unable to attend, please inform the school on the first day of absence by calling 01633 612429.
When deciding whether to keep your child at home, please consider the following:
Is my child well enough to take part in the activities of the school day? If not, keep them at home.
Does my child have a condition that could be passed on to other children or staff? If so, keep them at home.
Would I take a day off work if I had this condition? If so, keep them at home.
🤒Common Illness Guidelines:
Sickness or Diarrhoea: Children should stay at home for 48 hours after the last episode.
Fever: Children should remain at home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Colds or Minor Coughs: Children may attend school if they are well enough to participate in lessons.
Headache: A child with a minor headache usually does not need to be kept off school. If the headache is more severe or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as raised temperature or drowsiness, keep the child at home and consult your GP.
Chickenpox, Measles, Mumps, or Other Infectious Illnesses: Please keep your child at home and follow advice from your GP or Public Health Wales.
Head Lice: Children can return to school after treatment has started.
These guidelines help protect your child, other pupils, and staff, while ensuring children who are well enough can continue learning and enjoying school.
