📚Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE)
High-quality Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) is fundamental to creating a safe and supportive school environment where learners can grow and develop positive, healthy relationships for life. At Risca Primary School, we believe all learners have the right to receive high-quality, inclusive, and age-appropriate RSE.
Our approach promotes respect, equality, and understanding, helping children to develop positive attitudes towards diversity, including gender diversity, and to build respectful relationships.
Our Commitment
We recognise that the world around us is constantly evolving, and our curriculum reflects this. We are fully inclusive and comply with our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the RSE Code. We also work closely with parents and carers to help them understand the importance of RSE in supporting their child’s development and wellbeing.
At Risca Primary School, we:
Provide a holistic and inclusive RSE curriculum for all learners
Promote equality, respect, and positive relationships
Support children to understand their rights and wellbeing
Encourage open, age-appropriate discussions in a safe environment
How RSE is Taught
At Risca Primary School, Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) is taught through a combination of dedicated lessons and across other areas of learning. This allows children to explore important topics in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.
Teaching approaches are carefully adapted to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring that every child receives a high-quality RSE education in a safe and supportive environment.
We provide accurate and balanced information, reflecting a range of viewpoints. This helps children develop their own understanding while encouraging respect for others. As learners grow, they are supported to take increasing responsibility for their own learning and thinking.
RSE in the Curriculum
As part of the Curriculum for Wales, RSE is delivered through the Health and Well-being Area of Learning and Experience (AoLE), as well as through cross-cutting themes across the wider curriculum.
Our RSE provision:
Is integrated into both specific lessons and wider learning experiences
Reflects a broad and balanced, inclusive approach
Supports all five “Statements of What Matters” within the Health and Well-being AoLE
Builds knowledge and understanding progressively as children develop
Through this approach, we ensure that all learners gain the knowledge, skills, and values they need to form healthy, respectful relationships now and in the future.
At Risca Primary we use the following resources to teach RSE
