Thursday 4/14: How and Why Did America Get Involved in Iraq?
Guest Lecturer: Dr. Brian Williams
Read or view before class:
● C.J. Chivers, The Fighters, chapters 3-5, 7
● Film: “No End in Sight,” award-winning film on the origins and early years of the Iraq War (prior to the surge)
Prepare or organize before class:
● What similarities and differences do you see between the Vietnam War, and Iraq War – in terms of the decision to go to war, how the US chose to fight the war, and what the experience of combat was like for US soldiers?
● Dr. Williams will share a history of the war in Iraq, and its part in the Global War on Terrorism in the wake of 9/11. As you watch the film and read the Chivers chapters, think of questions to ask during his visit, that might connect that larger history with the experiences of American soldiers.
