Before Class:
Read "Shitty First Drafts" by Anne Lamott.
Bring your notes (draft) developed after Monday’s class. Some other questions to consider in formulating your notes:
· What is the best advice I can give my past self?
· How can I help my past self to navigate specific challenges?
· What types of people have helped me?
· What has made my life harder?
· Who do I wish I had spent more time with?
· What do I wish I had spent more time doing?
Along with answering these questions, you want to “teach” your former self some valuable info based off of two major takeaways from PCVI. How can you do this in a way that will make sense and resonate with your younger self?
I will introduce a great tool called the Double Entry Journal to you in this class. This will be especially useful for specifically nailing down the two PCVI lessons for your letter. You can print the journal out or fold a piece of paper in two to make 2 columns.
After Class:
Read Chapter 2 "How Writing Can Help Us Heal" from Louise DeSalvo's book, Writing as a Way of Healing.
Louise DeSalvo, "How Writing Can help Us Heal"
Submit a draft of your letter to Lucas for comment and review no later than Sunday, 12/12 by noon. Remember, this does not need to be perfect. It is a shitty first draft! Lucas will provide comments and guide you. This is an important part of this process!
A template to get you going is available on Google Classroom. You can use that or email me a draft at prallelucas@gmail.com.
