Prepare or organize before class:
Hyperion, in some ways, is about how the tremendous force of love can pull us in multiple directions.
Consider the following relationships before coming to class: love for an ideal, love for a country, love of nature, love for your friends, love for those fighting next to you, romantic love for another, love for a child, and love of self.
Can all these loves be balanced? Can we make ethical and logical choices surrounding different types of love? How so, if the cost of making such choices means losing the things we love as the readings from Hyperion seems to suggest?
