Testing and Evaluation

Matching the UI Design

  • Basic screen testing of a product is where the finished solution is compared to its original design. Does the finished user interface match the agreed design?

Were there changes made and if so why?

Testing Links and Navigation

Navigation testing is when you ensure that all of your hyperlinks/links/menus take you to the correct location

A 404 error is when a file is not found.

Any broken or dead links should be removed or corrected.

Check your internal and external links.

Internal Hyperlinks – to another page in your site/app.

External Hyperlinks – to an external page/another file.

Media testing

Media testing is when you ensure that any text, graphics and video display correctly and in the position in which it was designed to appear.

You should ensure that any media in the web site displays correctly.

  • Does any media such as video and audio play properly?

  • Do the images appear as they should?

  • Is there any pixelation?

  • Appearance - dimensions etc.

Consistency

Every web page should look like it belongs in the same site - it should be consistent.

  • Does each page look like it belongs to the same site?

  • Has a consistent layout been used on each page?

  • Has there been a consistent use of colour schemes and fonts?

  • Has there been a CSS used?

Evaluation - Fitness for purpose

This is simply checking if the product (website) is fit for purpose.

A site would be deemed fit for purpose if it fully meets all of the clients’ requirements.

To prove this each requirement detailed in a specification should be tested.
