48319 ARTS_High-Leveraged Instruction in the Arts (Part I): Summer 2023
Course Description: Part I of this 4-part series Arts Teachers will convene in grade-level/content-specific groups, as well as the whole department, to learn new and/or best practices that are grade-level, standards-aligned, culturally responsive, and engaging. Teachers and guest presenters, in collaboration with representatives from Teaching and Learning, will provide pedagogical demonstrations of discipline-specific skills and techniques focusing on student discourse in the arts. The session will focus on how arts teachers can incorporate more opportunities for students to engage in discourse that allows them to co-construct a deeper meaning within their learning. This session will be 6 hours in length. Participants should plan to attend the entirety of the session as partial credit will not be issued. Participants are expected to actively engage in discussions and activities with colleagues and facilitators

Course Description: Part 2 of this 4-part series Arts Teachers will convene in grade-level/content-specific groups and the whole department to learn new and/or best practices that are grade-level, standards-aligned, culturally responsive, and engaging. Teachers and guest presenters, in collaboration with representatives from Teaching and Learning, will provide pedagogical demonstrations of discipline-specific skills and techniques focusing on culturally responsive instruction that is embedded with the assets students bring to the classroom each day. The session will focus on how arts teachers can create a welcoming and affirming classroom environment that is focused on high expectations and rigorous instruction while providing inclusive curriculum and assessments. This session will be 6 hours in length. Participants should plan to attend the entirety of the session as partial credit will not be issued. Participants are expected to actively engage in discussions and activities with colleagues and facilitators.

Course Description: Part 3 of this 4-part series Arts Teachers will convene in grade-level/content-specific groups, as well as the whole department, to learn new and/or best practices that are grade-level, standards-aligned, culturally responsive, and engaging. Teachers and guest presenters, in collaboration with representatives from Teaching and Learning, will provide pedagogical demonstrations of discipline-specific skills and techniques focusing on formative assessment techniques and how to implement them in the arts classroom. The session will focus on how arts teachers can create a unique collaboration with their students using formative assessment techniques. When teachers work together with students in the formative assessment process they can create powerful learning outcomes that include more effective teachers and students that are actively engaged and assessment-capable students. Both become intentional learners. This session will be 6 hours in length. Participants should plan to attend the entirety of the session as partial credit will not be issued. Participants are expected to actively engage in discussion and activities with colleagues and facilitators.

Teachers and guest presenters, in collaboration with representatives from Teaching and Learning, will provide pedagogical demonstrations of discipline-specific skills and techniques focusing on formative assessment techniques and how to implement them in the arts classroom. The session will focus on how arts teachers can effectively incorporate social and emotional health and well-being for their students in their daily routines. This session will be 6 hours in length. Participants should plan to attend the entirety of the session as partial credit will not be issued. Participants are expected to actively engage in discussions and activities with colleagues and facilitators.

Course Description: In this professional learning, participants will gain a clear understanding of the NYSAHPERD Curriculum & Guidance Document that is aligned with the new 2020 NYS Physical Education Standards. The Curriculum & Guidance Document is the first comprehensive, research-based tool that connects the NYS PE Learning Standards to actual classroom practice. The course will cover reviewing the purpose and vision of the document, the connection to the standards and teachers will leave with engage in collegial groups to design rigorous units, lessons, activities, and assessments specific to their grade level.

HPE_Bullying, Hazing and Inappropriate Behaviors - SUMMER 2023

Participants will share and analyze their own lesson and unit plans as a group, focusing on SEL and alignment with the NYS Standards. This PD will consist of one, four hour session. Participants must attend all four hours to receive credit. No partial credit will be given.

Course Description: This course is open to all educators. This three-part self-paced online training course introduces the subject of child sex trafficking, a complex and multifaceted crime. By addressing indicators, vulnerabilities, and the trauma associated with child sex trafficking, this course will provide a deeper understanding the issue and its impact on victims and communities. Course Description: Girls on the Run of Rochester will present their mission and vision as well as provide training for teachers who would like to start a club in their school. This will be an interactive presentation where the material and information will be presented, as well as participants have the ability to be engaged and ask questions about the club, organization and start up procedures. Mission Statement from GOTR: We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. 48229 LMS_Makerspaces in Libraries Petting Zoo
Course Description: This course will explore new makerspace items, coding games and other technologies available for RCSD librarians to teach makerspace concepts and coding to their students. Introduction will include a brief history of makerspaces, relationship to New York State library skill requirements, and include mini sessions using each of the various items. Mini sessions will be followed by center format for individual exploration, possible field trip, and a group breakout EDU game. Some of the varied new technologies available for the Librarians to engage in will include 3D tour creator w/VR headsets, Ellison Machines, BreakOut Edu, coding mice, Ozobots, sublimation printing, etc. Workshop may include 2-3 local vendors with product samples. .

Course Description: In this workshop, teachers will learn about mentor texts that are available in their school library. The teachers will learn how mentor texts are valuable tools and how they fit into any curriculum, no matter age or subject they teach! Just as a mentor guides and is full of pertinent knowledge, a mentor text provides a concrete example of the skill a teacher would want students to master and guides them toward achieving it. A mentor text will show, not just tell, students how to write well, and allow them to envision the kind of writer they can be as they develop their skills (Dorfman & Cappelli, 2017). The research based materials used are School Library Journal reviews and Booklist reviews. Teachers will go into breakout rooms to review mentor books and decide how they could be used in different subjects, Teachers will be required to attend the full two hour workshop.

48231 LMS_New and Upcoming Elementary Books Summer 2023
Course Description: In the form of book talks, librarians will learn about recently published culturally relevant elementary books. To be classified as culturally relevant, a piece of literature needs be authentic, realistic, and uphold a culturally conscious ideology and message (Gray, 2009; Hefflin, & Barksdale-Ladd, 2001; Inglebret, Jones, & Pavel, 2008; McNair, 2010; Yoon, Simpson, & Haag, 2010). The research-based materials that will be used are School Library Journal reviews and Booklist reviews. The learning outcome for this workshop is for librarians to walk away with a list of books that would interest their students to read. To receive full credit for the workshop, the librarians need to attend for two hours. The librarians will have an opportunity to ask questions about the books and will use a Padlet to answer questions about the workshop.
