SPED_Comprehensive Literacy for All for NYSAA Summer 2021

Course Description: This is a 20 hour collegial circle based on book study of “Comprehensive Literacy for All: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities to Read and Write” by Dr. Karen Erickson and Dr. David Koppenhaver.

Target Audience: NYSAA K-12 Special Education Teachers

Outcomes: Implement research based practices to provide quality comprehensive literacy instruction for students with significant disabilities.

SPED_Literacy Instruction for Students with Significant Disabilities Summer 2021

Course Description: Participants in this collegial circle will be discussing and applying concepts from Comprehensive Literacy for All: Teaching Students with Significant Disabilities to Read and Write by Dr. Karen Erickson and Dr. David Koppenhaver (copyright 2019). We will meet online and use the LOMAH Podcast featuring nationally recognized experts in the area of comprehensive literacy for students with significant disabilities to set the topic of discussion each session.

SPED_Unique Learning Webinar Series for NYSAA Summer 2021

Course Description: Participants are expected to actively participate in the activities during the session. This course will be a series of webinars from Unique Learning Systems which is the curriculum provided for NYS Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) programs. Topics: IEP Development, Data driven instruction and assessments, Life skills practice, Empowering self-regulation, SEL, Language and Literacy, Math, Digital Portfolios.

Target Audience: NYSAA K-12 Special Education Teachers and Teaching Assistants

Outcomes: Participants will improve on: IEP Development, Data driven instruction and assessments, Life skills practice, Empowering self-regulation, SEL, Language and Literacy, Math, Digital Portfolios

SPED_Indicator 13: Transition in the IEP Summer 2021

Course Description: This training will provide participants with information on gathering and incorporating transition information into the Individualized Education Program (IEP). Participants will learn about and understand transition services and the practice of implementation as delineated by NYS Education Law and Regulations; capture and implement these practices into a clearly articulated process; develop practices that support appropriately developed IEPs; and increase the successful transition of youth with disabilities in New York State. Participants will also learn how to document transition planning and services within the IEP. Zoom link will be provided prior to the start of this course.

Target Audience: Special Education Teachers

SPED_Teaching in a Multi-Grade Level Classroom Summer 2021

Course Description: This professional development will offer special education teachers the opportunity to explore teaching in the multi-grade classroom. Teachers will review the planning process for planning instruction for Students with Disabilities in the multi-grade level classroom with a focus on Specially Designed Instruction. Teachers will also review instructional strategies, engagement strategies and classroom design supportive of the multi-grade level classroom.

SPED_Transition in the IEP
Summer 2021

Course Description: This training will provide participants with information on age-appropriate transition assessments to inform IEP development. Participants will learn about the use of transition assessments to assist decision making in regards to instructional programming, annual goals, the development of measurable post-secondary goals and related transition services. Hands-on activities will be provided.

Target Audience: Special Education Teachers

Outcomes: Participants will explore indicator 13 including level 1 assessments, transition in the IEP, and pathways to graduation
