CTE_Cultivating a Maker Mindset for Middle School Summer 2021

Course Description: This course will: Learn the five steps of design thinking, a problem solving process, define a curricular challenge and solve it using design thinking, and apply design thinking process to subject areas to spark student interest

ELA_CFA 1 6-12 Updates Summer 2021

Course Description: This session will take participants through Common Formative Assessment 1 and the most current alignment updates to better understand the value in administering CFAs, standards based curriculum, the process in administering CFA 1, how to access/utilize the CFA Google Site, and considerations for implementation of formative assessment in the classroom and different learning environments.

Target Audience: Grades 6 - 12

Outcomes: Participants will be able to I explain why it is important to have a standards based district wide curriculum and implement regular common formative assessments. Participants will be able to use the tools in the ELA Google CFA site to support instructional planning and create engaging learning experiences based on grade level priority standards.

ELA_Hallmark 1 Persevering Through Complex Texts Supporting 6-12 Summer 2021

Course Description: This session will dive into the various texts available to 6-12 students and how they support students in reading complex texts. The focus is on the science of reading, decodable texts, leveled readers and anchor texts for this session.

Outcomes: Participants will be able to use the resources in the Hallmark 1 Padlet to understand the concept of “complex text”. Participants will be able to use evidence based strategies to help my students persevere through grade level complex text

It will draw attention to understanding the importance of the 4 Hallmarks of Advanced Literacies and discuss how those hallmarks support student learning.
