ARTS_Best Practices in Arts K-12 Summer 2021

Course Description: In this course, Arts Teachers will convene in grade-level/ content specific groups to discuss and share culturally responsive, standards aligned best practices. Participants will be expected to arrive prepared to share effective lessons and units from their own teaching , including resources, people of interest, local connections. All Sessions will be four hours in length. Participants should plan for a working lunch and attend the entirety of all of the sessions. Partial credit will not be issued. All participants are expected to actively engage in discussions with colleagues and facilitator.

Target Audience: Essentials K-12 Music, Art, Dance, Drama/Theater & Technical Theater teachers

Outcomes: Arts teachers will leave this workshop with lessons, activities and ideas they can incorporate into their own daily practice

ARTS_Quaver Music Summer 2021

Course Description: In this course, K-8 music teachers will lean about and how to use the Quaver Music program that is available to all K-8 RCSD Music Teachers and students. Participants must attend both sessions offered, for a total of 4 credit hours.

Health and Physical Education

HPE_Interdisciplinary/Cross-Curricular Circle: K-6 Summer 2021

Course Description: The organizational structure of interdisciplinary/cross-curricular teaching is called a theme, thematic unit, or unit, which is a framework with goals/outcomes that specify what students are expected to learn as a result of the experiences and lessons that are a part of the unit. In order to meet the whole child and improve academic achievement it is important to provide students an opportunity to learn across all content areas. Teachers will work in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Health and Physical Education and Health Ed. Coordinator of the Department to integrate elementary health education and recess through the course of a school day. Participants must attend all four sessions.

Target Audience: K - 6 Educators and Health /PE Staff

Outcomes: Participants will be able to help students Increase/maintain healthy behaviors, increase abstinence from unhealthy or unsafe behaviors, decrease unhealthy or unsafe behaviors and delay the onset of first involvement with unhealthy or unsafe, high risk behaviors.

HPE_Teacher Institute Summer 2021

Course Description: Professional Development opportunity for HPE staff to work/design learning opportunities with a focus on Interdisciplinary/Cross Curricular Instruction, Cultural Responsive teaching strategies and Implicit Bias. Staff will also examine current Curriculum, Lessons, Units, and Assessments to address the alignment with the Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT). The PECAT is designed to conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analyses of physical education curricula based upon national physical education standards. There will be a total of 4 sessions lasting 2 hours each. Your must attend all sessions in order to receive credit for the Institute. Dates for the Institute are July 13th, 20th, 27th, and August 3rd.

Target Audience: Health and PE Staff

Outcomes: By using the PECAT, participants will be able to successfully conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analyses of physical education curricula based upon national physical education standards.

HPE_Whole School, Child & Community Collegial Circle
Summer 2021

Course Description: Identifying resources within the community and utilizing a coordinated approach that integrates education and services to support our student’s health and academic achievement. Community organizations will present current research on topics taught by health educators. Participants are expected to attend all sessions.

Target Audience: Health, PE, social workers, school counselors and any school personnel who are interested in learning about community resources to help with children and families.

Outcomes: Participants will be able to access the community agencies and to assist their students and families and prepare to successfully complete the SCHOOL HEALTH INDEX from the CDC.

SPED_Supporting Students with Disabilities Across All Settings Summer 2021

Course Description: This summer 2021 course is designed to provide Essentials Teachers districtwide with an in-depth understanding of strategies and behavioral techniques to increase participation of students with disabilities. Participants will be exposed to the characteristics of students with deficits within areas of cognition, adaptive, and language skills.
