The RCDSB has three Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who support students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 with speech and language needs. SLPs assess students, recommend treatment options, and help develop communication goals and programs. They work closely with Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs), school staff, and families to support student progress.
Schools are informed about a student’s program and any changes to services. SLPs also meet regularly with SERTs to discuss student needs, and IEP goals are created together with the SERT and/or classroom teacher when required.

Communicative Disorders Assistants
RCDSB's Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs) work under the supervision of our SLPs. They povide therapy to students based on goals set out by the SLPs. Programs delivered by the CDAs can be though direct therapy intervention, through consultative therapy and/or indirect therapy intervention, in the classroom (push-in model) or individually and/or in small groups outside of the classroom (pull-out model).
Carryover activities may be provided to school staff and parents through Tier 1 and 2 strategies, or through Tier 3 practice at home or at school. Progress is monitored by the SLP through regular consultative reiview with the CDA and/or through review of communication needs. Gols and/or recommendation will be changed or amended by the SLP as necessary to meet the comunication needs of the student. A progress report may be written at the end of the school year, or once the student has achieved his/her goals.
CDAs will also check in with students and staff to support communicaiton devices used by students who are non-verbal/low verbal (iPads with P2G, PECs books, etc).
CDAs are also responsible for equipment checks of DHH students,(ie. hearing aids, FM systems, etc.).
