All Year 11 students are required to take six courses.
Students are divided into the following classes according to their needs, ability, teacher recommendations and Year 10 results. This can be discussed with HoLs. Compulsory for all year 11 is you must take 1 x English option, 1 x Mathematics option and 1 x Science option.

There are no compulsory subjects in Year 12 - however it is strongly recommended if you are going on to future tertiary study (University OR Polytechnic and some Trades) that you have level 2 English and Mathematics. (You need to check pre-requisites for future courses) You should be aiming for 5 credits reading 5 credits writing.

All Year 13 students are asked to select 6 subjects choices for 2025/2026 - ranking your top 8 subject choices. If University is a possibility for you, ensure that you choose at least three University approved subjects. Your confirmed course selection will guide the suitability of whether a study line will be offered to you. There are no compulsory subjects in Year 13 - Check you have University Entrance literacy if you are intending to go on to university, if you have not achieved - check which of your courses offer University Entrance literacy based standards to ensure that you can achieve the required amount. Also make sure your course selection has enough University Entrance approved subjects required to achieve University Entrance. (* = Approved subjects for the purposes of University Entrance).

Aquaculture (Science Achievement standards) Digital Technology, Building, Engineering & Hospitality (Technology achievement standards) - depending of the needs of the student some achievement standards can be offered.
To succeed in most subjects it is generally necessary to have done well and passed standards in that subject at a lower level. Each students course options will be considered individually.
At Queen Charlotte College we welcome adult students (full or part-time to participate in all classes). Adult members of classes are accepted by students of the College. We recognise the valuable ongoing links forged between the school and our community.
