What students will learn:
This course is offered to students who are wishing to explore trade skills based around Joinery and Cabinetry. This qualification framework has National Certificate for Level 1 for BCITO. The qualification covers skills in workshop procedures, health and safety, materials knowledge, hand tools, power tools and operating fixed machinery.
What students will experience:
The Unit Standards on offer are all under the NCEA framework. Students undertaking this course will need to adhere to health and safety procedures throughout each practical lesson.
Students will enjoy making a range of projects. If they wish to take home their projects there will be a cost attached that covers the materials, students will be involved in the costing of projects. Students will be required to pay extra or bring if they wish to have items such as locking systems, fancy handles, custom paint, and anything that would be considered extra to the units they are producing.
Successful completion of the course will result in the award of the National Certificate in Building Construction and Allied Trade Skills Level 1.
Entry
It is advisable that the students entering this course have successfully gained the National Certificate Level 1, or have prior knowledge in practical applications or show a mature and willing interest to learn building construction skills. If too many students apply we will need to have implement an interview process. Classes will need to be capped.
Students will experience
Students will work with a qualified builder to work towards constructing a house for Kāinga ora (Ministry of social housing. Students will undergo health and safety training and will expected to adhere to the health and safety routines on the building site. Students will be given the tools and safety equipment necessary to achieve in this course. Students will work for one full day at least each week on the building site. Getting hands on experiences of what the construction industry is like.
Successful completion of this two-year course will result in the award of the National Certificate in Building Construction Level 3 and Allied Trade Skills.

What students will learn:
Hospitality at Level 1 is designed to introduce students to the skills needed to work in the Hospitality industry. Additionally, they will be able to make informed decisions about food safety, nutrition and menu planning.

At the end of this course students will have the practical skills and confidence to prepare food for a family.
What students will Experience:
Students will experience hands on learning in the kitchen. They will learn to prepare, cook and serve food. Students will need to be willing to try and share their outcomes to give and receive meaningful feedback.
Hospitality at Level 2 is aimed at developing skills which can be transferred to the Hospitality industry in local Marlborough cafes and restaurants or those going on for further training in this area. At level 2 all cooking assessments are prepared for an end user.

Chosen students will be enrolled in the Gateway Programme which will facilitate work placements in the industry.
The aim of this course is to develop and extend students understanding of the Hospitality and Catering industry, whilst providing strong pathway links from classroom to industry. Advanced hospitality skills and knowledge are taught in a mainly theoretical, with some practical.
These skills build on from those taught in Level 2 Hospitality. This course is suited to students who would like a career in the Hospitality and Catering industry.

Big ideas:
Students who take this course will work towards gaining a National certificate in Computing (Level 2 and 3), which is a qualification to help them gain entry in to office administration work, as well as supporting their ability to work in many other professional settings.
What students will experience:
They will learn skills in office administration including becoming proficient in word, excel and powerpoint. They will learn how to correctly store, manage and share files. Students will also learn to create images, learn the legislation around sharing and using other people's images. They will learn how to make websites using HTML. We will also do some work on Databases. Although this mostly applies to office administration type jobs it will help them in a number of different careers as many of these skills are transferable.
