Big Ideas
Students will learn:
Ākonga will develop computational thinking skills and the ability to design and develop digital outcomes. They will also learn how computers represent and process data — the fundamental material of the subject. Ākonga will develop an understanding of how data can be organised and the ethical issues surrounding its use. They will learn about the digital design and development processes used to create, test, and evaluate digital outcomes. Ākonga will practise manaakitanga as they learn to prioritise users in the outcomes they develop, and understand how Digital Technologies outcomes impact on the people who use them.
Ākonga will learn fundamental principles and concepts that existing and emerging technologies are built on. This knowledge will allow them to quickly adapt to the challenges and opportunities offered by new technologies. They will become informed users, and innovative creators, of technology.
Students will experience:
Students will experience a range of different learning and assessment methods. They are challenged to capture their own thinking as authentically as possible. Creating screen captures, movies of their thinking as well as written documentation can be effective methods. They will adpat and use many types of software and learn to analyzie them for effectiveness.
Students and Whanau will be part of selecting a course that best meets the needs of the individual learner.
Units of work include:
Planning and Programming
This unit includes work across 2 Internal standards. Student will learn how to carry out more complex planning using python. They will also develop skills in how to better project mange their task.
Print media outcome unit
This unit includes across 3 internal standards and 1 external standard. Student will learn to conduct an inquiry, develop designs and build a print media outcome across this unit. As well as building digital technology skills and understanding it will help with their critical processing and creative thinking.
Character Design
Students have the option to work through 4 standards within this unit. One external and three internal standards. This unit takes students through doing an inquiry, to researching, designing and then building a 3D character using Blender.
