Accomplished Teacher and HALT
Definitions:
ISTAA Accomplished Teacher
recognises teachers who:
Are highly effective, skilled practitioners with in-depth knowledge of subject and curriculum content.
NESA Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher
recognises teachers who:
Are highly effective, skilled practitioners with in-depth knowledge of subject and curriculum content,
Keep abreast of the latest developments in their fields of expertise,
And work collaboratively to improve their own practice, and the practice of their colleagues.
Eligibility
ISTAA Accomplished Teacher
Teachers must have:
Achieved Proficient Teacher Accreditation
and maintained that level of accreditation for at least five full-time equivalent years of service.
Note: A teacher can apply for Accomplished Teacher accreditation before completing the required service period, as long as they will have done so by the end of the year in which their application is assessed.
Discussed readiness with their line manager and the Director of Professional Learning
Teachers receiving additional allowances are eligible for this allowance.
NESA Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher
Teachers must have:
Achieved Proficient Teacher Accreditation
Been assessed as satisfactory in:
a. 2 of your most recent annual performance assessments if applying for Highly Accomplished Teacher, or
b. 3 annual performance assessments if applying for Lead Teacher
Considered the scope of their role and the opportunities they will have to demonstrate the Standards
Discussed readiness with their line manager and the Principal or their delegate (Director of Professional Learning)
Teachers receiving additional allowances are not eligible for this allowance.
Evidence Requirements
ISTAA Accomplished Teacher
Evidence must include:
A Principal Attestation that confirms the applicant’s practice aligns with Standards 4, 6 and 7
Documentary evidence that addresses a minimum of 20 Accomplished Teacher Standard Descriptors from across Standards 1, 2, 3 and 5
One Observation of Practice Record
Duration:
One Calendar Year (Evidence can be used from the previous year)
NESA Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher
Evidence must include:
The HALT application process takes a modular approach. It includes:
2 modules where you develop evidence to demonstrate your practice and its impact for 20 Standard Descriptors at the relevant HALT level
A report after observing a colleague’s teaching practice
A Site Visit to verify your practice
Duration:
Typically, Two to Three Years
Accomplished Teacher accreditation is a voluntary level of accreditation, exclusively available to educators in Independent schools.
Accomplished Teacher accreditation is a voluntary level of accreditation, exclusively available to educators in Independent schools.
This accreditation is available to teachers in Independent schools with an industrial agreement that includes ISTAA-accreditation at the level of Accomplished Teacher or Experienced Teacher, including the CMEA.
Accomplished Teacher accreditation is positioned on the professional growth continuum between Proficient and Highly Accomplished Teacher.
Accreditation at the level of Accomplished Teacher is not just about having experience, it provides recognition that a teacher has continued to develop their expertise and practice to be consistently operating beyond proficiency and to an Accomplished Teacher Standard.
Applications are accepted early in Term 1 each year, with submissions of evidence open during Terms 2 and 3 of the same year. Submissions are reviewed following payment of the submission fee. Accreditation outcomes are finalised within 12 weeks of final submission of evidence. Teachers may use evidence generated in the year of application and the previous calendar year.
An overview of the timeframes for Accomplished Teacher accreditation is provided below:
Evidence timeframe: Commencement of previous calendar year to date of submission
Application period: Early in Term 1 each year (approximately weeks 3-4)
Submission of evidence period: Submissions open 1 June and close on 31 August each year
Accreditation outcome to applicants: Within 12 weeks of Submission of Portfolio of Evidence, or submission of any additional evidence (where requested).
Additional evidence (where requested): To be submitted within three months of feedback being provided.

Pymble Plus is running 2 pilot projects in 2026.
The 2 Pymble Projects are:
Pymble Plus Version 2-Highly Accomplished
recognises teachers who:
Are highly effective, skilled practitioners with in-depth knowledge of subject and curriculum content,
Keep abreast of the latest developments in their fields of expertise,
And work collaboratively to improve their own practice, and the practice of their colleagues
Eligibility:
You are Permanent Teacher who has:
Achieved Proficient Teacher Accreditation
Taught for 12 months at step 2.5 (consideration of service can be given for career change teachers)
Demonstrated at least two substantive examples of working collaboratively to improve the practice of teacher colleagues in a significant way.
Considered the scope of their role and the opportunities they will have to demonstrate the Standards
Discussed readiness with their line manager and the Director of Professional Learning
Given at least 2 years full time or equivalent service to Pymble as a teacher
Teachers receiving additional allowances are not eligible for this allowance
Evidence Requirements:
The Pymble Plus Version 2 accreditation process takes a modular approach. It includes:
A Teacher Inquiry module that:
odemonstrates exemplary teaching practice using the latest knowledge from your field of expertise
ois evidenced by impact on student learning
A year long Pymble endorsed project that:
o evidences your ability to model and lead innovative teaching and learning practices that relate to all applicable Standards and
osupports colleagues to engage in the delivery of NSW curriculum and assessment
oa “Story of Impact” for dissemination in the college community
Duration: 18 months to 2 years
Pymble Plus - HALT Top UP
recognises teachers who:
Have been granted Experienced Teacher/ Accomplished Teacher/Pymble Plus Accreditation,
Keep abreast of the latest developments in their fields of expertise,
And work collaboratively to improve their own practice, and the practice of their colleagues
Eligibility:
You are Permanent Teacher who has:
Achieved and maintained Experienced Teacher/ Accomplished Teacher/ Pymble Plus Version 1 Accreditation, or recognition on employment
Demonstrated at least two substantive examples of working collaboratively to improve the practice of teacher colleagues in a significant way.
Considered the scope of their role and the opportunities they will have to demonstrate the Standards
Discussed readiness with their line manager and the Director of Professional Learning
Given at least 2 years full time or equivalent service to Pymble as an accomplished teacher
Teachers receiving additional allowances are not eligible for this allowance.

The Pymble Plus- HALT Top up accreditation takes a project approach. It includes:
The completion of a Pymble endorsed project that:
evidences your ability to model and lead innovative teaching and learning practices that relate to all applicable Standards and
supports colleagues to engage in the delivery of NSW curriculum and assessment
a “Story of Impact” for dissemination in the college community
Duration: 1 calendar year
