It is commonly known as the snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue, is a herbaceous, succulent, perennial plant thatcangrowupto90centimeters inheight. Its leaves form a basal rosette and are flat, thick, leathery, sword-shaped, and marked with grayish-white transverse bands. The plant produces whitish-green flowers that can reach upto 5centimeters in length. The snake plant is named for the shape of its leaves or their sharpness. It forms dense stands, spreading via its creeping rhizome, which can be either above ground or underground. The stiff leaves grow vertically from the basal rosette, with mature leaves being dark green and featuring light gray-green cross-banding. These leaves typically measure70-90cmin lengthand5-6cm in width, with some reaching up to4 feet long and2.75 inches wide. The leaves have yellow bands on either side and a deep green, lightly banded center. In spring, the plant produces greenish-white flowers on spikes that can reach 18 inches in height.
