War in Europe vs. War in Asia

European war was mostly a ground war.  Some highlights:

• American commander = General Dwight Eisenhower (the supreme allied commander) and General George S. Patton (the tank commander).

• German Commander = General Erwin Rommel; the Desert Fox.

• British Commander = General Bernard Montgomery

The magic year is 1943.  

• Battle of Stalingrad (Soviet Union) = the turning point of the war.  It was the first time the Germans were pushed back toward Germany

• Invasion of Italy = Americans successfully invaded Italy from Africa

The War in Asia was mostly a naval campaign involving the American Navy and Marines.  Some highlights;

• American commander = General Douglas MacArthur

• Japanese commander = Yamamoto

The magic year = 1943

• Battle of Midway = turning point of the war.  The Japanese empire starts to contract.
