World War I started with the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand in 1914. However, the United States did not become involved in the conflict until much later; in April of 1917. By then, most of those in the war were fighting for almost three years with little movement. Where World War II was a war of miles, World War I was a war of inches. This was the war "to end all wars" but history suggests that war, in some capacity, will always be a part of human existence.
This course is a United States History course and in that regard, our learning will only focus on Americans in World War I. That history begins around 1915, will lead to the US entry in the War in 1917, and will end with the "Big Four" in Paris, 1919.
