Roosevelt did have his critics:
Senator Huey Long, pictured to the left, (R-LA), also known as "kingfish," believed that Roosevelt's New Deal focused too much on banks and did not do enough for the "common man."
Dr. Francis Townsend, a medical doctor, felt the New Deal did not do enough for the elderly.
Proposed the "Townsend Plan" which, eventually, became Social Security (still in existence today).
Court packing: Roosevelt was frustrated with the Supreme Court for overturning most of his New Deal Programs. He proposed increasing the Supreme Court from 9 judges to 15, Roosevelt would appoint 6 additional judges. This was met with overwhelming Congressional opposition. Many believe that if World War II had not started in mid 1930s, the court packing plan would have cost Roosevelt re-election in 1936 (Germany started it's expansion in 1935).
