Why did I decide on writing a screenplay as my final project? Well, at the beginning of the year I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do for my project other than something involving with writing. A screenplay seemed just about the right length to be able to complete throughout the year.
Gerrard Federman, a government meeting stenographer, accidentally publishes his personal news website he writes, which includes news story versions of the meeting notes, under the alias of Olivier Rogers, and is assigned to the team responsible for finding the author of the website.
Where did the initial idea come from?
I have absolutely no clue. The idea had been floating around in my head for a while, and once I decided on writing a screenplay for my project the plot just fell into place.
Learning how to format a screenplay
The whole process of formatting was made a lot easier with the assistance of Celtx (the program I used to write) which did all of the indentations and margins for me. Besides that, all I needed to learn was scene headings as well as very case specific things, like two characters talking at once or an action in the middle of dialogue.
Time Management
Over the last four years of high school I have gotten very good at procrastinating, and for this project I needed to learn how to manage my time to actually have a finished product by the end of the year.
Throughout the year, I was able to put a set amount of time aside each week to work on my project, which really helped me to stay on track.
Editing as I Wrote
When I first started writing, I would make small changes as I went, which would slowly add up, and I would end up with a small amount of work compared to the amount of time I put in.
