In the fall of 2012, DAAPS (Digital Academy of Advanced Placement Scholars) launched at Shadow Mountain High School. From its inception, the primary focus was to provide a place for students to learn and grow in their academics with a focus on the Humanities, all the while allowing them to pursue their passions for other core subjects, artistic endeavors, athletic pursuits, and everything else that the tight-knit SMHS culture has to offer. It has taken many years for the final year of this class to fully take shape.

In the Spring of 2019, we had a wonderful Celebration of passion projects from 5 students. Each student had an allotment of 20 minutes to share their project with parents, DAAPS students, Administration, and staff in the Media Center.

When the Spring of 2020 rolled around, COVID decimated our hopes for an in-person celebration. So, the students got creative and built sites to display their projects.

As the 2020-21 school year progressed, we were determined to be able to share our projects in person. And, on April 15, 2021, this happened, and it was a SMASHING success! With an art/science fair type set up in the Matador Arena, the students shared their presentations with family, DAAPS Students, Administration, and staff. And, because the website piece received such positive feedback in the Spring of 2020, we agreed to create another one this year. This allows us to preserve the GREAT work that was done and allow students in subsequent years to benefit from these wonderful projects.

15 April 2021 DAAPStone Introduction.mp4It's nearly impossible to fully capture the extent of each project with the pages that follow. Time, effort, setbacks, problem solving, and all that comes with major projects was involved in each of these projects. The students have elected to show you the highlights and give you a sense of the outcomes. Each student had a different journey and process to get to the end.
