Elvira A Green was born on September, 14th, 1850 in Blissfield, New Brunswick, Canada to Lewis L Green and Mary Lydia Mooers. She was the second of six children, and also had 2 half siblings from her mother. There appears to e a bit of a scandal between her mother and father. They lived in Blisfield, NB until 1851 when they moved to Miramichi, NB and lived there until 1861, when they moved back to Blissfield. I am wondering if the move to Miramichi is just an effect of the records and they never left Blissfield. According to the 1861 Canadian Census, the family were Baptists. In 1863 the family immigrated to the Houlton, ME area.
In 1870, she was living with her father in Muskegon, MI. On July 27th, 1871 Elvira married Frank H Washington Carpenter of Lincoln, ME. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Carpenter and Rebecca Smith Hammond. Their first children, twin girls, were born on June 14th, 1872 in Houlton, ME and were named Nora Louise and Cora Margaret. According to their birth certificates, Frank was acting as a trader at the time. On September 14th, 1874, their first son, Walter Garfield, was born in Houlton, ME. By 1875, the family had moved to Fort Kent, ME.
Their next child, Althea, was born on December 28th, 1875 in Fort Kent. She was followed by Frank Benjamin on February 3rd, 1880. At this time, Frank is listed as being a Cattle Dealer. The 1880 U.S. Census has the family living in Fort Kent and Elvira is listed as being a house keeper and milliner. By 1887, the family had moved back to Houlton. On May 18th, 1887, Frank and Elvira had another set of twins, Elvira Lydia and Charles Stinchfield.
1894 for a hard year for the family, On June 2nd, 1894 their daughter Althea died at age 18. On the same day, their last child, Ralph B., was born. He died soon after on September 14th, 1894.
In 1900, Elvira was living with Frank and their three youngest children in Houlton. The family was renting their house. Frank and Elvira are shown to be living at 32 Highland Ave in 1910 with the younger twins. They own the house without a mortgage but Frank has been out of work for a bit over 4 years. Elvira died on April 26th, 1917 of Carcinoma of the stomach and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Houlton, ME.
